Last Day in New York - Tues, May 18th
Sad, but true...
This is our last day in NYC. :-( We woke up to the ting of rain hitting our window air conditioner in the hotel room. It was grey and cool outside. I suppose that means that our trip is finished. We are leaving on the perfect day! After packing our belongings and great ‘finds’ into our luggage, we headed out for one last meal in the Big Apple. The hotel desk staff recommended a little diner called The Red Flame. It was about 1 block from our hotel, so we headed out with our umbrella’s (that matched the lining of our purses) held high.
I know. The Red Flame… Sounds like a mix of Japanese & Asian cuisine. BUT, let me tell you that it was a very busy, quaint little diner with delicious home cooked foods. Between the six of us, we had omelets, waffles, French toast, eggs, and pancakes. Delish! The aroma of coffee and breakfast was quite appealing. Love it!!
Time to head back to the hotel and check out. Darek and I looked up some more travel options to the airport that would not cost a fortune, and we were able to find a route through the subway and bus system that we could use our Metro Pass on. (Whoever told us to purchase the 7 day unlimited ride pass was a genius!!!) This pass came in very handy, and we more than got the $27 value out of it. Just in the ride back to the airport we recouped that cost, not to mention the many, many subway rides we took. This was also a lifesaver, as Jerry had a ‘flat tire’ on one foot. (He stubbed his pinkie toe and tore the nail off! OUCH!!)
The #1 train took us to 110th Street near Columbia University. Then we walked across the street and boarded the M60 bus. This bus ride took a little while (nearly an hour), but it dropped us off right in front of the Delta terminal. We proceeded inside and got our baggage checked and through security just in time to board the plane when we walked up to our gate. Everything we did during this trip happened in just the right timing. We definitely had God’s favor all over us!! It was a smooth vacation, and we took in every sight that we had planned to see.
Next time we can do more shopping and see some of the other touristy things that may not be as famous and busy. We had a fabulous time, and I’m already looking forward to my next trip back the great City of New York. (Even Darek had a great time!!)
Double Bonus: Nobody got stabbed or witnessed any stabbings! LOL! We did hear a LOT of emergency sirens, and noticed hundreds of NYPD everywhere. That gave me a secure feeling, and I’m definitely not afraid to go back.
Time to sail the friendly skies…. Home (&Hunny) – here we come! :-)
